No Finer Diner

Anyone living in Los Angeles knows that if there’s one thing L.A. has a deficit of is late night eateries.  The proliferation of food trucks in recent years has changed that.  However, when it comes right down to it, there are only a handful of all-niter dining establishments.  Norm’s on La Cienega is an institution.

Built for the car

Norms Restaurant, like traffic, seems like it’s been around forever.  Used car salesman Norm Roybark’s design was purposely made to evoke the almighty car.  If you’re a vegan, this place isn’t for the faint of heart.  Soon as you enter the sounds and smells of breakfast sausage dancing on the griddle grabs your better self and soon you find yourself sitting at the counter confused by all the choices.

There is a comparison

I’ve eaten steak in some of the most famous and expensive restaurants in the world and Norms can quietly claim to be right up there.  For less than 10 bucks you can have a wonderful 3-course steak dinner and enjoy it without guilt.  Their breakfast specials rival anything anywhere and the $3.99 milkshakes are made from real ice cream and come with the traditional metal container for several extra pours at your convenience.

A bit of norm in L.A.

The staff are almost always great, they have parking and you never know who you’re gonna run into there.  I’ve met some old friends and new.  Some famous; most not.  Most of all, Norm’s creates a family atmosphere that’s not stuffy, the service is quick and the best part is that everybody feels welcome.

Strange to call that a norm, considering this is L.A., after all.

Strangely always hungry,
